Daily Tip 13: Enable Incompatible Firefox Addons

I just recently installed Firefox 3.1 Beta 1 and the main drawbacks to installing beta versions of Firefox is that you will lose your Addons and Extension ability because those don’t support the beta versions. Although it may be a hazard for myself (running beta code), it’s been fine for me for the past week or so. It is just very annoying that I am not able to access my Addons or Extensions. This fix will help you bypass this “Incompatible” message that Firefox gives you. Read more »

Daily Tip 7:How To: Remove / Strip DRM off iTunes Music Tutorial

The tutorial shown below is for users who is annoyed by iTunes DRM and wants to strip it off because they want to play it in other devices, use it as background music in a home video, or anything else that DRM limits it to do.  Many people know you strip off the DRM of iTunes music by simply burning the song to a CD, and ripping it back over, losing very little quality (if settings are correct).  This method does the same exact thing but you will not need a CD-RW disc, a CD ROM drive, or even need to burn anything!  It’s that simple.  Let’s show you how to perform this.

We are going to be using a program called TuneClone.  TuneClone is basically a program that acts as a virtual CD drive that allows you “burn” MP3 from iTunes and “rip” it.  TuneClone “lies” to your computer saying that you have a CD-RW drive that it will burn to (like Alchohol 120%).

Daily Tip 5:How to Delete Hiberfil.sys Tip

Daily Tip! How to delete Hiberfil.sys safely!

It happens to most users of Windows XP. One day you are searching for a file or cleaning up the PC’s hard drive and you encounter a huge file - hiberfil.sys. Normally located at C:\hiberfil.sys, its size can vary from 250MB to over 1GB. You try to delete the file - it’s not a good idea to delete files you don’t understand - but Windows won’t oblige anyway. That’s why you are here.

Windows XP has a feature that is not very well documented and it will be totally new to users of older systems such as Windows 95 or 98. This new feature is called Windows hibernation. Instead of shutting down and restarting your computer, Windows takes a snapshot of everything running on your system, copies it to the hard drive and then turns off most of your hardware. To wake up from hibernation you normally move the mouse or hit the spacebar on the keyboard.

In theory, it is supposed to be a quick shortcut or power saving option that allows you to leave your PC in suspended animation until you are ready to work again. However, in practice, most people find little time difference between shutting down and using hibernation. For people who use drive imaging to backup their system, the hiberfil.sys file can bloat the backup files - making them larger (sometimes over 1GB bigger!) and therefore slower to copy/restore.

Daily Tip 3:Browse Firefox with Higher Fidelity / Quality

I bet many of you don’t know this but Firefox lowers quality of images shown on a webpage to allow quicker surfing.  To toggle this setting to make pictures “pop” with higher colors, just follow this trick.  This is very helpful in viewing perfect color pictures on Flickr or if you are a hardcore color profile fanatic and you want to get the most out of your colors.

Basically, this tip enables color management profiles so if you do not have any color management profiles enabled on your computer / monitor, don’t do the following or else your pictures may look even worse.
