My New Roadbike – 2010 Giant Defy 2

Working out around my campus is great, especially on a bike.  With rolling hills, steep climbs, and fast downhills, a bike is the most preferred workout for me around campus.  I first started out with a Specialized Rockhopper semi-offroad bike, but found that climbing hills in that 30+ pound clunker was too hard.

I could not go around fast enough, nor easy enough.  So I thought that I would plunker down some cash to get a nice starting road bike.  I emailed my cousins who are both bike and running aficionados and asked their take on which bikes were good.  We both decided on the 2010 Giant Defy 2.

It’s a fast, agile, bike, weighing just under 20 pounds.  It comes standard with Shimano Tiagra gearing and Sora brakes.  The shifters are all on the drops, as you can see on the bike picture above.  It’s so much faster than riding a mountain bike, and I don’t get tired as fast as I do before.  I’ve clocked in speeds at over 35 mph, keeping up with traffic easily.  Overall, it’s a great starter road bike.
